No1 in a series
of lots: Frank Haffey |
| |
Dear old Frank will forever be revered
in England as the man who let nine slip past his cat-like
paws at Wembley in 1961.
The 9-3 humiliation was
Frank's last appearance in a Scotland shirt, and in fact was
one of the Celtic keeper's last appearances anywhere as he
decided soon after to emigrate to Australia. I can't think
why.
Although, the common joke
that swept the nation in the wake of that defeat, "What's
the time?" "Nine past Haffey," may have had something to do
with his decision.
