Jings! Whit a busy month it's been. As maist of ye will a'ready
ken, the big news is, ah've decided tae leave Berti tae get
on wi' his youthful revolution wi' the Scottish fitba team and
take a job in club management wi' English Nationwide League
giants, Preston.
It's sad tae be leaving, but me and
youthful revolutions just dinnae go together somehow. Ah've always
preferred players in ma teams that ken how tae shave.
Other than the sheer disgusting bucketloads
ay money they're gonnae be paying, Preston's a guid move fer me
as it's no too far frae the Scottish border tae escape after we
lose games and still get tae Glasgow in time fer a guid Saturday
night's clubbin' wi' the bird. Frae North End tae West End in
a jiffy, ye might say. Ah will also be well placed tae spy on
the English fer the benefit o' this diary, so dinnae worry, Paw's
no leaving ye just yet!
An' of course, let's no forget, ah'll
be able tae keep a close eye on all the wee laddies wi' Scottish
grandmaws that ma pal Berti's picking for International duty frae
England's second division, frae exotic places like Wigan and Stockport.
Apart frae me, there wiz something else
that happened this month. Whit wiz it though? Oh aye, noo ah recall.
Literally dozens of people were dismayed
at the announcement that Airdrieonians FC hud become the first
senior league team in Scottish football tae go oot of business
since Third Lanark back in the 1960's, in the days when ah still
had hair oan ma heid and a pint o' heavy wiz thruppence ha'penny.
The North Lanarkshire team had teetered
on the brink of bankcruptcy ever since moving away from their
crumbling and invariably empty slagheap of a stadium at Broomfield
tae a brand new purpose-built, all-seated, state of the art and
even emptier stadium they couldn't afford tae pay for, miles away
from what little fan-base the club already had.
Their demise has been greeted wi mixed
reactions from the Scottish football fraternity, maistly ranging
from "couldnae give a fuck" tae "good bloody riddance".
In truth, the "Diamonds" and
their largely neanderthal supporters, of whom there are/were fortunately
only a handful, will no' be sorely missed.
And they'll no' be the last tae go,
either.
It's time Scottish fitba woke up tae
the fact that the professional game in Scotland simply cannae
sustain the number of full-time or even part-time clubs that oor
mickey mouse leagues currently accommodate.
If 50% of them went ootay business tomorrow
it widnae surprise me. In fact that wid be the best thing that
could happen fer the survival of the game.
Nae wonder Celtic and Rangers want oot.
Scottish fitba is in a right mingin'
state.
If it wisnae, dae ye really think ah'd
accept a job in a grubby English shitehole like Preston?
Ye dinnae huv tae answer that.
